SL-PDT Subluminescent PD Therapy
The SL-PDT provides a new alternative to conventional surface photodynamic therapy for skin lesions. Traditional methods have only been effective for the upper layers of the skin where the external light can penetrate with enough intensity to have an effect. Deeper layers were not sufficiently exposed and therefore did not react well under treatment.
The SL-PDT System provides a focused, high intensity red light through a fibreoptic light guide inserted through a canula under the area to be treated, thereby effectively treating the lesion from below. This allows efficient photodynamic therapy treatment of localized, defined hypertrophic lesions which, until now, could not be successfully treated with surface PDT irradiating treatments.
Features
The most effective way to treat defined localized, hypertrophic lesions.
This SL-PDT method can be applied alone or in combination with conventional PDT treatments. For such cases, the SL-PDT set offers the patient a simple and less straining treatment and is also an alternative for those patients for whom surgical operations are not advisable or not possible (e. g. intake of anticoagulants).
Advantages
- No scarring
- Can be used for risk patients
- No surgical invasive operation
- Can reach deep skin layers
- Possibility to combine with external PDT devices
- No pain, local anaesthesia
With the SL-PDT the affected skin area is irradiated subcutaneously. The irradiation takes place via a probe directly below the lesion so that the deep layers of skin can be optimally reached. The minimal invasive treatment is comparable to an injection therapy and is painless with local anaesthesia.
Indications / Applications
- Actinic precancerosis
- Basal cell carcinoma (skin-deep or tubercular)
- Morbus Bowen
- Therapy resistant hyperkeratotic viral warts

It is especially suitable for the area of the forehead, head and trunk, as well as extremities and the back of the hand. The SL-PDT treatment may only be applied by doctors who are trained and experienced in the field of photodynamic therapy (equipment technology and photo sensitizer).
