Newtom 5G Cone Beam CT
The Newtom 5G is the latest Cone Beam System to be released by QR Systems in Italy. The flat panel technology of the 5G produces exceptionally high resolution images with 6 programmable fields of view ranging from 6x6cm to 18x16cm. Utilizing the patented "Smart Scan" technology, patient radiation dose levels are kept to an absolute minimum with all exposure settings controlled automatically. Perfect image exposure from small infants through to large adults is guaranteed every time.
The Newtom 5G is configured as a horizontal system and is ideally suited to patients who are unable to remain stationary in a vertical position during the scan. This could include sedated patients, trauma cases, infants, geriatrics and special needs patients. The 'pass through' gantry design also allows other extremities such as hands, ankles, feet, elbows and knees to be scanned with hard tissue image quality equivalent to traditional CT scans.
Features
Features of the Newtom 5G
- Flat panel sensor technology.
- Safe beam exposure control.
- Seated or horizontal patient entry.
- Horizontal scan position for sedated & trauma patients and infants.
- Six programmable 'Fields of View' from 6x6cm to 18x16cm.
- Lowest Dose of any comparable CBCT on the market.
- Pass through gantry allowing other body extremities to be scanned.
Advanced Imaging Technology
The Newtom 5G captures a series of 360 images in a single 18-second scan and stores them as digital information in a database on the local server. The software then reconstructs these 2D images into a 3D volume which contains primary images in multiple axial planes. This captured data provides the highest quality images possible for use in diagnosis and treatment planning of the maxillofacial region.

The multiple field of view, coupled with the very small 0.3mm focal spot of the Newtom 5G means that the highest quality images can be acquired and reconstructed with great accuracy. All measurements taken are 1:1. The volume of image data captured is also kept to a minimum. This translates into very short image reconstruction times, generally averaging about 60 seconds, and economical disk drive usage.

Multiple Scan Modes
The NewTom 5G has five selectable FoV's.

Horizontal Patient Positioning and Pass Through Gantry
The ergonomic, two stage patient chair on the NewTom 5G allows the patient to be seated initially and the moved comfortably into a supine position before being introduced into the scanner to perform the diagnostic examination.
Fine tuning of the patient position can also be carried out through the software before the scan is initiated.

Newtom "Safe Beam" Technology
Along with the other Newtom systems, the 5G also employs 'Safe Beam' technology which automatically adjusts the radiation dosage according to the patient's age and size. This technology utilizes intermittent bursts of radiation only milliseconds in duration during image acquisition and not the constant radiation stream typical of many other CBCT imaging products. The patient's exposure to radiation is far less than that of competing systems and significantly less than traditional CT scans. Children, for example, receive up to 40% less radiation than adults during a typical scan.
